AirPort Extreme Base Station
Hey all,
I know I must seem like an Apple shill here lately, but I’ve added yet another Apple product to my line up.
My D-Link Wireless Access point apparently just gave out on me… just turned it on and no wifi signal. I did a bunch of research and opted for the AirPort Extreme Base Station. Why?
Well, it’s Apple… Just kidding. It seemed to fit all of my needs. Sure it’s a bit more than other routers on the market, but I’m tired of having to find a PC to flash them, do some arcane web browser configuration, or other stupid things I’ve had to go through in the past with cheaper routers.
I also like the speed and different setups possible with this router. We’ll be setting up an office space in the second bedroom. With this unit we can hard wire the two computers at the desk and have Wifi throughout the house for when we’d rather sit on the couch and browse.
Another interesting feature is the ability to plug in a printer to the wireless network as well as have a hard drive connected for a mini-network in the house. Might not use these features, but it’s a nice thought (word online is that the hard drive feature doesn’t work super well for bigger files).
If you’re in a smaller house or apartment the AirPort Express might be more for you. If all you need is a simple Wifi signal transmitted through your house and the ability to network a printer, this will fit the bill.
These guys work with a Mac and PC so all are welcome to try it out.
Hopefully this is the last Apple post you’ll have to sit through for a while
