New York Theme Club Party at P35

p35064

Hey all,

After Glow on Friday it was off to the new club on Petchburi Road - P35. My friend Florian and his Theme Club crew were throwing their monthly party. I guess I’ve been out of Bangkok long enough to be out of the loop because the people watching the door didn’t know me and weren’t going to let me in for pictures (trying to make me pay :p ). I said I’d be fine to enter like that, as I’d much rather not work and just enjoy the night. Finally things were sorted and I was allowed access.

The club is pretty big. Nicely decorated for the most part, with a combination of lounge areas and large dance floor. The lighting system was top notch and the sound was decent. I didn’t buy drinks so can’t really report on the prices, but service seemed to be moving quickly.

The club is a bit off the beaten track, so I hope for their sake they’re doing something out of the norm - i.e. staying open past 2, cheap drinks, or something. Otherwise I can’t imagine heading their too regularly, particularly for farangs (foreigners) who are new to the area and might feel intimidated venturing off of Sukhumvit. Time will tell and I wish them the best.

Pics were for Florian. Find him on Facebook to see the rest.

Bali DJ at Glow

glowbali053

Well,

I went back to Bangkok for a few days. Of course I was going to swing by Glow to cover a couple events. Friday night they had a DJ from Bali. She was really, really good… just too bad more people weren’t there. I think most people were over at P35 and another event. P35 event pics to come soon.

I shot these pics for Glow, so you’ll have to go there to see them :)

Temples Irish Bar Code Opening

TemplesOpening029.jpg

Hey all,
This Friday I photographed the opening party of Sukhumvit Soi 11’s newest pub, Temples Irish Bar Code.

Obviously it’s an Irish pub, but they’re attempting to make it a bit more modern. There are murals on the walls and the food is a bit more fusion than traditional.

The pub is in a prime location for pre-party drinks due to it’s location near Bed Supperclub. There’s another new bar near to Temples, but I wouldn’t recommend anyone drink there (because as a Liverpool supporter I could never recommend a Manchester United fan’s pub :) ). Temples should do well as long as they keep the pub grub good and beer specials going till about 9 or so. That would make a great start up for any night ending at either Bed, QBar, Diva, or Twisted Republic.

Photos this time were actually not for Lifestyle so you’ll have to get a copy of Lookeast Magazine’s Januray 09 issue to see the rest of the pictures.

Rendezvous with My ALTER

Rendezvous191.jpg

Hey all,

Yesterday visited a theater for the first time since March of 2002. Some of you may know that I started out thinking I would be a theater director… and hopefully one day artistic director of a regional theater (what kid dreams of that? :) ). Time in a college theater program, however, burnt me out. So much so that apart from one trip to New York (where I saw some of the worst shows of my life…on broadway no less) I haven’t set foot in a theater since.

Earlier on the blog I gave a shout out to my friend Sonia. She works for BK mag and has been a nice, supportive person to talk to in Bangkok. When she invited me to her play I knew I had to go, hatred of modern theater or no.

The play is Rendezvous with My ALTER. Thankfully Lifestyleasia.com sent me to photograph the play so I was spared buying a ticket :) . Too birds, one stone.

Rendezvous with My ALTER was written by Sunaina Gulati. It was about a girl named Naaz who is not a traditional lead….sort of like in the musical Hairspray. But instead of a free-spirited girl who’s never down, Redezvous features a more realistic “larger girl”. The lead in this play deals with the real issues a larger girl deals with today, particularly in asia.

The play also featured many dance numbers. The script was similar to dance comedies out today like Step Up or others; kids dealing with life and dancing :) The actors seemed to enjoy their roles, though I was watching a dress rehearsal and a show like that really needed a live audience to bring out the energy in the show.

The lead was great as was Sonia, which was a great relief to me… I hate having to lie to friends and smile and say good job when they really didn’t do a good job :)

The play was also neat for me because it took place at the Chalermkrung Royal Theatre in Chinatown. This is one of Bangkok’s oldest theaters and I’d never visited.

Full Moon Party at Siam@Siam

SiamSiam143.jpg

Hey all,

Following the Luxury 1 Year Anniversary it was time to head over to Siam@Siam.

This was my first visit to Siam@Siam. It’s a small boutique hotel and spa located just past MBK shopping center. I didn’t get a chance to check out the rooms. We headed straight up to the top floor for the party.

The roof area is pretty amazing and affords a nice view of Bangkok. This is a really great spot for a party, and I’m surprised more people don’t take advantage of the location and schedule events here (hint, hint Bangkok Theme Club group).

They also featured a lingerie-ish show with paired guy and girl models. I didn’t know that was going on so was surprised to turn and see a man in bikini briefs with faux bear paws :)

There was a free bar from 9-11. Keep your eyes peeled for their next full moon party.

Pictures were again for Lifestyleasia.com . Check out full gallery here:

Luxury 1 Year Anniversary at Bed Supperclub

Luxury1Year011.jpg

Hey all,

On Friday I photographed two parties. The first took place at popular Bed Supperclub. The event was the 1 Year Anniversary for Luxury Magazine.

There was an open bar from 7-9 with drawings, prizes, and apparently some people got to take a spin in some of the high performance vehicles parked out front. I didn’t stay long because I had to run to Siam @ Siam for their monthly Full Moon Party (pics coming soon).

Cool Salsa Party Nomad

Hey all,

Last night photographed at the new Nomad Restaurant and Club. It’s a Moroccan themed restaurant on Sukhumvit Soi 12. It’s a great place. The interior and decoration rivals Gazebo. The building is split into two sections. There’s a restaurant with nice tables and chairs and a cool looking outdoor seating area. The club portion is stunning. Nice ceiling and wall decorations with some modern photography on the walls.

I met the director Myriam. She’s a really nice lady and was very friendly.

I don’t know if the drinks were specialy priced for the Salsa night, but my Singha was only Baht 110 which is pretty good for such a nice looking place. I saw two ladies order mixed drinks at only Baht 200 a piece for a Mojito and Cosmo.

The event was thrown by Latinos Sabotaje. I met Carlos, an organizer for the events. Really cool group and they throw Latin-style parties around Bangkok throughout the week. Apparently there’s quite a network of dancers for these things, because the people present last night could dance. People were quite serious about it too, they brought special shoes and outfits. There were people on hand to teach beginners too though which is a nice touch.

The photos were shot for Lifestyleasia.com. Gallery Here.

Paragon 3 Year Anniversary

A few magicians were hired to provide entertainment for the Paragon 3 Year Anniversary

A few magicians were hired to provide entertainment for the Paragon 3 Year Anniversary

Hey all,

Photographed the Paragon 3 Year Anniversary event last night for Lifestyle Asia. I really have no idea what was going on. I guess for some reason it was a Vegas-inspired theme, but I don’t really understand what that had to do with Bangkok’s premier high end mall.

There were three photographers for every person who should have been photographed. This made it next to impossible to walk around the roped off area getting pictures.

Can’t believe it’s been 3 years already for Paragon. Seems like just yesterday kids were falling off of uncompleted floors due to shoddy design and workers were falling to their deaths securing pointless decorations for a hurried opening. How time flies :)
