New 24inch Apple iMacs

newimac

Hey all,

Sexy new computers out from Apple today. Looks like they’ve cut the 17inch models and have a 20 inch and some new 24 inch iMacs for those looking for a decent home computer set up.

I’m a little bummed that the entry level 24inch has an integrated video card. For most people this won’t be a deal breaker, and Apple’s internal testing shows the new setup to be faster, but a lot of people are predicting that software will begin more and more to leverage the power of video cards and the processor together for the processing of complex tasks. If that’s the case, I’d rather have a real video card. Plus, if I do get back into video I’ll need a faster video card for Motion and other programs.

If all you do is surf, Word, and a bit of photo work have no fear about the entry level 24 inch… it looks like a decent setup. For me it means I have to pay a bit more to get the computer I want…. or wait till the mid-level 24inch shows up refurbished. Then I can pair it with the oh so cheap Dell 24 inch monitor for a dual monitor editing dream station :) Well maybe not the top dream, but at least a not so expensive, obtainable one.

As with all Apple computers, don’t pay for memory from them though. Upgrade that on your own and save lots of money. Also skip the “mighty mouse” and it’s horrible nub. The Bluetooth Keyboard is great, but the mouse is 30 kinds of annoying.

Well Designed Card Readers

imagematey

As a photographer there are just certain items we’re going to have around a lot. Card readers are of course an essential part of every photographer’s digital workflow. Why not have a well-designed card reader on the desk if you have to use one a lot? Particularly since the small version of these SanDisk card readers cost only 20 USD… it’s almost a no-brainer. Good speed and performance, with looks to match.

I have an Iomega external hard drive designed by F.A. Porsche that is also quite lovely. I’m glad that some companies take the time to do things well and don’t gouge us for the polish they put into the products. If I’m going to have something on my desk, I’d rather it looked and functioned well… but that’s just me.

Now if only I can source these guys in Singapore for a reasonable rate :)

New Business Cards

Finally made a new set of business cards to reflect the new website, colors, addition of design services, and to remove my phone number. In the wild the cards feature rounded corners, but the picture preview does not… you can use your immagination :) .
