Most of you know that I’m really wanting to move back into video. Quality is getting crazy good and so are the cameras offering video features. I’m still a bit confused by all the modular systems of the Red Camera, but I love what they’re trying to do…. so much so that I rode an Oakley board in Bali in support of James Jannard founder of Oakley and Red Cameras. I’m very interested to see how these systems will develop and change the industry.
Sexy new computers out from Apple today. Looks like they’ve cut the 17inch models and have a 20 inch and some new 24 inch iMacs for those looking for a decent home computer set up.
I’m a little bummed that the entry level 24inch has an integrated video card. For most people this won’t be a deal breaker, and Apple’s internal testing shows the new setup to be faster, but a lot of people are predicting that software will begin more and more to leverage the power of video cards and the processor together for the processing of complex tasks. If that’s the case, I’d rather have a real video card. Plus, if I do get back into video I’ll need a faster video card for Motion and other programs.
If all you do is surf, Word, and a bit of photo work have no fear about the entry level 24 inch… it looks like a decent setup. For me it means I have to pay a bit more to get the computer I want…. or wait till the mid-level 24inch shows up refurbished. Then I can pair it with the oh so cheap Dell 24 inch monitor for a dual monitor editing dream station Well maybe not the top dream, but at least a not so expensive, obtainable one.
As with all Apple computers, don’t pay for memory from them though. Upgrade that on your own and save lots of money. Also skip the “mighty mouse” and it’s horrible nub. The Bluetooth Keyboard is great, but the mouse is 30 kinds of annoying.
Christmas list is a bit late this year. I’ve actually received my presents (new glasses and money), but just in case anyone else out there is wanting to make my Christmas dreams come true there’s this.
It’s small, but HD. It’s Canon so I’m familiar with the controls. Underwater casings are cheaper for it. But mostly I just don’t have the funds to get one of the larger 3 Sensor cameras right now. So we’ll start with this and work up a reel. Donations or full camera accepted
I’d say wedding videos have come a long way. Normally I can’t stand working with videographers… to the point where I once was offering the service myself. This video is really something special though. It makes me think….
Part of me would really like to return to video and part of me wants to focus on being best photographer I can be. I get asked almost every wedding if I offer services, so maybe I should. What do you think?
